What a crazy past week we had here in Guarapuava. To start off the week, on Christmas eve Elder Ribeiro and I went to a member´s house during the evening for their Chrismas Eve feast. We spent about an hour and a half at their house talking with some of the thirty people that were there waiting to eat, but as our 9:30 pm curfew arrived, we ended up getting the barbequed steak, sausage, coleslaw, maionaise, Guaraná and pasta to go, and we ended up stuffing ourselves when we arrived home. Then as it is tradition here we stayed up til midnight, so Elder Riberio could open up his Christmas package. Everyone here, adults and kids alike, stay up til midnight Christmas eve to eat a feast with family and friends and open all their presents. Christmas day I got to talk to my amazing family and we had a american christmas dinner at the senior missionary couple´s house, in the neiboring area. We were treated to t bone steak, mashed potatoes, maionaise, french bread and to cap it all off we had strawberry pie for dessert. Then that night all 6 elders in our district slept in the small apartment in Vila Bela. To say the least it was one of the hottest, humid nights of my life as we all slept without any blankets or sheets.
Yesterday we got soaked from head to toe in a huge wind and rain storm. I learned this week that our mansions in heaven will be built out of the sacrifices we make here on earth to keep the commandments and help God´s kingdom/church grow. Think this week about what sacrifices you are making to keep the commandments to build your mansion in heaven. I love you all...HAPPY NEW YEAR. Until 2013! :)
Love,
Elder Jonathan Jared Hokanson
